New Years Punch, Cubed

    for the ice cubes
  • bunch of star anise
  • bunch of cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2” chopped ginger
  • 10 dashes of bitters (grapefruit works great!)
  • 2 TBSP sugar
  • fresh cranberries
  • chopped lemon peel
  • rosemary stems
  • for the punch
  • ½ bottle of Bourbon
  • 1 C Cointreau
  • 1 C cranberry juice
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1 bottle of soda water
  • Orange Rounds (optional)


    for the ice cubes
  1. Heat a small pot filled with 2 qt of water until simmering
  2. Add your star anise, cloves and cinnamon sticks / stir
  3. Chop your ginger (already peeled) and add that in too / stir
  4. Add sugar
  5. Let simmer for 5 minutes
  6. Turn off and remove from heat
  7. Add your bitters / stir
  8. Add two large ice cubes to cool it off
  9. Bring in your ice cube trays and fill each with cranberries & a small slice of lemon
  10. Strain your mixture to remove the spices and then pour into the ice cube molds
  11. Add a sprig of rosemary into each one and take off to the freezer
  12. for the punch
  13. Into a large pitcher, add your bourbon, cointreau, juice, lemons
  14. Stir until well combined
  15. Bring in ice cubes / add into a glass
  16. pour ? the way with your punch
  17. add a float of seltzer and serve
